New chickens....cochins of course....

I rehome two of my roosters...Attitude and another one I have not named.

the last picture I have token of these two...when I took Attitude to his new owner, he bit me...I told them that I understood if they didn't want him...needless to say if he came back home he would have met the freezer.

I went to a local swap meet and looking for a barred cochin rooster...the one that I have is not fertile as of yet with his eggs from that pen so, thought I would get another one to hopefully start a buff barred project...only one of the buff hens are laying though...the other two have not yet started laying, their combs are red...my oldest has named the new barred roo Bakbak....and the youngest named the little white hen Sweetheart...she picked her and she just started talking to her...I really don't like the comb on Bakbak...but got this pair since I wanted the white hen....the person I got them off of had another barred roo with a birchen hen...would switch the roos out so I got this one.....she laid me a egg yesterday...I put in the bator to see if is fertile....hopefully this is the roo she has been running with...I forgot to ask that ...they are both fairly young...

Here are two different views from the Chocolate cochin rooster I picked up...initially went back to the person that had this roo to look at a buff roo again and then I saw him.....and thought I needed him....so I asked how they got this color and they said they didn't know I might try and breed him to some white hens to keep getting the color.....I have investigated it further and think I need black hens to put him with to keep this color...so am looking for more black hens...I have one and may put my one birchen colored hen in with him after he is out of quarantine .So will see what he produces from there....

I just had to share my new cochins...also picked up two Buff cochins chicks as well...hope they both are hens, but it would be ok if one is a hen and the other is a roo...

I have this little hen with Bert, My Columbian rooster
                                                         she is not laying yet

Here are my splash/Blue cochin chicks I have held back

These little chicks are out of my Columbian pen, notice the three black ones, I do believe they are out of the birchen colored hen that is in there....

These are some of the egg layers I held back...I got a couple of dozen eggs from a friend of mine and kept these baby chicks back from them....a couple of them are Easter Eggers...My youngest has a Easter Egger hen and wanted me to keep these back for her....she also has a couple little banties and I got them in with a frizzle roo...got a egg from them yesterday and put it in the bator as well...

my prayers go out to all of those that are dealing with the wind damage or tornados that have happened in the last couple of days and is still happening.

My Columbian bantam cochin chicks...a color project
might be rehoming the black ones, not for sure yet.
                                                                       7 of them.

The parents of the Columbian chicks all of them was raised here.

PBR, Another loss, Cochins....

Just a few pictures from the PBR when we went last Friday night....sorry so blurry , my oldest took them with her Ipod, since I forgot my camera.....we had a fun night out to the PBR....Thanks to the American Cancer society for getting us tickets.....

My oldest played away game and won one set , then lost the two sets.....she had fun though, so that is all that counts and she got to play and had her hand on the ball a few times as well....One hit went into the crowd and she later said that embarrassed her that it went to the crowd, I told her it happens to everybody....

Saturday starts Hooping it up for the youngest...her love of basketball....Her regular season starts in January.

Just a pic of Elizabeth with Shay and Dawson enjoying this nice weather

                                                               from the garden, piƱata rose

now on to the cochins chickens

out of Bert and his ladies

                                                            Bluebeard, a blue frizzle roo

the blue one I bought this year, not good feather on feet

Belle, one of the chicks that I got with the blue hen...a hen, yay
I might put her in with Gizmo next year, not for sure yet or with Bert

sad to say this one is looking like a roo, was so hoping for a hen to put with attitude to start a blue laced red cochin project

                                               Spike, another frizzled roo

This one has some unique coloring on him, really don't know what color he is considered on what color hen would be best to put him with....

Here is an updated pic of the black one I picked up this spring as well....another roo....
Well we don't have practice today....the coach is giving the JV girls a day off, so When I go and pick up the girls from school , I might bring Cricket along....she loves to go to school with me...some might asked how I know that she wants to go ....she jumps up and she will go jump in the car when the door is open of course....she hasn`t been to school this year yet....some of the other kids have been asking about her...
Well I think that is enough for now...everyone have a wonderfull day and rest of the week.

updates of the garden,other things...

First off gardening....

Hubby is tired of these irises being in the main yard, he mowed them down, ....weeds were in them badly, so they are being moved, can you guess where?

The irises will be moved to this long bed, at least I hope they will all fit here, if not they will put around the garden area.....
It has been rough digging in this dirt with all the rocks,...and yes I am picking them out at least the big ones....we so need rain badly . it has been hard digging in the heat....summer has come back with a vengeance here in the Ozarks...I have been digging in the morning and evening some when the oldest doesn`t have practice anyway...

I have pulled up the green beans that were planted here as well as the tomato plants,...like I said we need rain....the ramps that were over t his bed  has been sold at a swap meet, hubby didn`t think he needed them anymore , since he has a trailer....I will have to figure out something to put over this bed in the spring....still some time away....this bed will stay a vegetable bed of sorts, I am thinking.
This is the only beans I have left in the garden, still blooming and need picking as well, but I have enough beans in the freezer for the time being, might pick them and give to the chickens.

A look at one of the bed, just with a couple of tomato plants that don`t look that great

the cucumbers have not been very productive this year.
Just a glance of a pretty rose

Watermelon and marigolds,...they are still blooming
                                                                now on to the birds....

My new chickens I picked up during that swap meet, I know I had to trade my two old English game hens for these two....I hate to see the two little hens go,...but I didn`t have a roo for them and I wanted to increase my cochins this year....love my cochins, this barred roo hopefully will produce me some buff barred babies next spring, have not named him yet.....don`t know as of yet who I am putting the little white hen with , have named her white rose....maybe I can find a white roo for her between now and spring.
                                                 Now some Muscovy.....
                                                 shay/tiny...tiny was her original name
                                           Dawson with momma Elizabeth

                                               Boss just hanging out....
ok, Lillie is this one`s name....
not a very good picture of little mary, but a picture none the less.....

Now on to the soap box of sorts.....
My oldest is playing volleyball this year for the first time...yes she is a junior, but do not realize that she like volleyball until last year. My problem is her not getting to play...what ever happened to the pure love of a sport game you are playing....I know we have not had a game as of yet, the first one is tonight....of course she is not playing the other girls that played on the team last year plus two extras which is their first year playing as well and they are freshmen. you would think since my daughter is a junior she would have a little more seniority then these other two girls, I guess not......One of these girls did not play in elementary school either, I guess the coaches think they are better players....
Hopefully she will get to play some in the other two games she has this week....but as a new player on the team ....probably not...we will see....just my two cents worth...high school sports seems like it just for winning anymore, not for just playing and having fun like in elementary.

I am gonna go work on my quilt for now....everyone have a enjoyable day!

another replanting...

I have decided to dig up all my tulip and Easter Lillie bulbs and then transplant them thru out the garden.

This is the part of the bed , I have dug them up so far!
                                                  Trixie was out helping me....

This is one of the ice cream buckets
that I have so far and then I have a half of one.

Since the mint has taken over this section, I have decided
it has to go and be replanted elsewhere. will be digging up this area as well

This where the mint will be replanted in.

this little flower was just begging to a picture taken of it!
These are the steps across the bed I recently made to get to the grapes

Thought I would show an updated pic of the two grape plants
I would like to get one more grape to put along the panel, don't know what kind.
Hopefully these two will survive the winter here, the last one I planted didn`t make it.
I planted these two in a different place.

Mary and Lillie/Glimmer relaxing in the sun

Introducing Sport, my new Partridge bantam cochin roo, he is such a sweetheart. Am planning on putting the one little partridge hen with him, right now she is with Gizmo. My hubby thinks he looks like a min Eddie( my main egg layers roo). The next day after I got him I was taking the girls out to the bus stop and I saw one of Cochin roos out and thought it was him....it turned out to be attitude, I think Eddie must have had a fight as attitude doesn`t try to get you anymore....at least not for the last couple of days.

Here is another new animal here....a lion head doe, my youngest daughter`s to go with her buck, which is only part lion head....I forgot what she has named it....her plan is to have bunnies...

This is the start of  a chicken coop...I have seen plenty of videos on youtube where they use plastic bottles, and tin cans and glass bottles to build houses, green houses ....So I thought why not a chicken coop and save those cans from going to the landfill, might put some glass jars/bottle on the sides to let some light in. This will be the back wall, don`t know if I will have much done before winter hits here, but it`s a start of a recycle project that I have been working on for a couple of months.....It is 8 feet across and have not started on the side walls as of yet. So every once in a while when some progress has been made I will try and post pictures of it....It is only about a foot tall so far, am wanting it to be at least 5 foot tall in the back and 5 1/2 in the front with the run will be.

It has turned back to summer here with the heat.....well so long for now....
