Baking powder biscuits

Let`s try this again I accentially pushed the enter button.This recipe came from the Kansan Silver spoon cookbook of 1967. These are not fluffy biscuits, but good.

Grandma`s Baking powder Biscuits
Mrs. Tom Selby

2 cups flour, sifted
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg, unbeaten
4 teaspoons baking powder
2 Tablespoons sugar ( optional)
2/3 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 cup shortening
Sift dry ingredients into a bowl. Add shortening and blend well. Pour milk in slowly and add egg. Stir until stiff. Turn dough onto floured board and knead 5 times. Roll out to 1/2 inch thick.Cut out biscuits Bake 12 to 15 minutes at 450 degrees. Makes 12 to 14 biscuits.
