The cake is not that sweet , but then again I do have a sweet tooth.
Here is the recipe. Remember the recipe is from 1967
BROWNIE`S COFFEE CAKE
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
3 whole eggs
2 cups flour, sifted
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 pint or 1 cup commercial sour cream ( i think this means buttermilk not sour cream considering the batter was very thick)
Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla thourghly. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together. Add to creamed mixture alternatley with sour cream. Blend well after each addition. Spread half of batter in a greased 10-inch tube pan. Spread half of topping over batter. Add rest of batter, then rest of topping. Bake about 50 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool cake about 10 minutes before removing from pan
Topping 4 Tablespoons butter, soften
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 cup nutmeats, chopped ( I used walnuts)
Combine all ingredients and mix well
